Return to the Forest

I tip-toed past the living room. I could just see her sitting in her rocking chair reading her new Nora Roberts book. I creeped out the front door, trying with all my might not to let in too much air to make her turn around. The air outside was humid, dark storm clouds crouched. I took a deep breath and ran away from our house, across the dirt road, and to my path that led to the clearing. I felt a piercing hope that he would be there. It felt as though my life depended on it. I took another bite of bread I had grabbed due to a sharp hunger in my stomach.
When I reached the shelter of the trees I started to run. please be there! I screamed in my mind. The clearing before me was almost exactly the way I had left it. Except, he wasn’t there. I sat down on the rotting log once more. Suddenly I heard a russel of the bracken behind me. I whipped around seeing his tall body nearly a yard from where I sat. I almost raced towrd him, but then I saw his eyes. Insteadof lavender, they were a piercing red shade.
