Sangsue- part 14

I was sitting quietly in my house, which has been very silent since my family was taken by the Sangsue while I was at school. Except my hamster, Alec. They left him here. We both sat in silence while I read the newpaper. “Just discusting,” I yelled, tossing the paper aside, “Having a percent of who’s human and who’s not. Saying that the population is less than 10% human. Sick. Just sick.” Alec just looked at me, nose crinkling as he sniffed the air. He paused, then squeaked and crawled into his bedding, “What’s your problem?” I grumbled, crossing my arms over my chest and closing my eyes, trying to get some sleep.
That’s when I noticed that it was a little too quiet for my comfort. There were no birds chirping in my backyard, which has always been the norm, even now, when everything has changed so much.
Then there was the sound of breaking glass and I felt myself fly forward and my back slammed against the wall. Someone had a strong grip on my wrists. I then came face to face with a pair of snake-like eyes.
