In the Right Place at the Wrong Time

“Wait Devon. Don’t go out there. Not yet.” Devon looked up at her tall companion with confusion. her tiny little heart wanted to run to her parents. But there were guns aimed her way and this man hadn’t hurt her. He even knew her real mom! She looked longingly at him, then decided to trust him. He hadn’t let her down yet.

A third car screeched to a halt behind the detective. A man started yelling, “That’s my daughter! Don’t let him kill her!”

Devon’s Mom and Dad looked at the man, then at each other and finally at Detective Walsh, who pulled off his sunglasses and stared at this intruder.

“Mr. Trazelli, I presume.” Walsh said. At that moment, Trazelli realized Devon’s parents were standing there too, and he tried to duck into his car, but a single shot rang out, glancing off the roof of his car, narrowly missing the location where his head had been moments before.

“You’ll stay, Mr. Trazelli!” Detective Walsh lowered his pistol. “Guard him!” he ordered. Three officers turned to train their guns on him.
