The Verdict

“What’s this about Detective Walsh?” Mr. Turner asked the question everyone was thinking.

“It’s about Devon. And the truth.” Detective Walsh began.

“I have here, Devon’s birth records from the hospital. Regardless of what the adoption papers claim, the same papers Mr. Trazelli’s lawyer was kind enough to provide, these documents are original, untampered, and come direct from the deceased source who would have cleared this up years ago.

“Devon’s biological mother, Melanie Light, tells us the truth.” Detective Walsh opened the manilla envelope and removed a paper.

“Devon’s biological father is…Julian Reeve.”

“That’s impossible!’ Trazelli shrieked.
Julian looked astounded, then he smiled.

“Julian is my real dad?” Devon’s innocent voice cut through the confusion. “I’m glad! I didn’t want that greasy haired man to be my dad!” Devon ran to hug Julian. “Devon!” Julian hugged her back.

Mrs. Turner burst into tears. This was too much for her. Devon looked at her, then at Julian.
“You can stay.”
Devon smiled
