Off Key [Prologue]
Maryanne was her name, and piano was her game.
She had played for as long as she could remember. It was her love, her passion, her only need. Except for her daughter, Ellie, and husband, Joe.
Maryanne had been a piano teacher.. And she loved her job.
She loved teaching, loved working with kids with the very best instrument possible. She always called her students a “key” part of her life (haha). Joe loved her. Because she was so loving, so committed to the cause of introducing music to children, such a wonderful wife. She was the best kind person.
And Joe. He was a wonderful father, helpful, kind, guiding. He worked as a mechanical engineer at a local car company. And he was also great at his job.
Joe loved the grease on his faded denim jeans after working on a project, getting up early to the sound of birds singing to work on a car that he would never own.
Maryanne and Joe were so full of life. How do I know this? Because I am their daughter Ellie, and I know how my parents got murdered.
