Long road home
The car sped past me at lightning speed, almost running me off the road. I was already frightened; something about this dark, nearly deserted country road did that to me. And almost dying didn’t make matters any better.
I went a few more miles, before the rain started to fall. “Great,” I muttered.
Suddenly, I could make out shapes in the road. It looked liked a bad accident. As I crept up closer, I noticed that it was the car that had passed me so quickly earlier. No one else had arrived on the scene, which made sense considering we were in the middle on nowhere. I pulled over to the shoulder and got out of the car.
The troublemaker’s car was upside down in the ditch. I walked to the driver’s side door, which already had the window down. A gorgeous blonde sat behind the wheel. She was coherent, but I could tell she was seriously injured.
“Don’t worry,” I said. “I’ll call 911 and stay with you until help arrives.”
She looked up at me with frightened eyes.
“Don’t help me,” she whispered. “Run!”
