Stephanie Mayberry

Anna watched the sun come up that next morning, as she hadn’t slept at all. Somehow it comforted her that Jack would be watching the same sunrise, that as far apart as they were, the sky still connected them.

About an hour later the nurse came in. “How are you dear?”

Anna forced a smile for this sweet nurse, “Fine, I’m fine.”
The nurse smiled too but her eyes looked sympathetic, “I’m sorry dear, I know it must be hard with that happening, so suddenly too.”
Anna nodded.
“Well you are welcome to leave whenever you want today, but you must be out by 12 noon.”
Anna nodded again, “Okay, thank you. What was your name?”
The nurse was taken off guard at the fact that a patient cared for the name of ‘just another nurse’, but still she smiled, “Stephanie Mayberry.”
“Well the next time I end up at the wrong place at the wrong time, and come to this hospital? I’ll be sure to ask for you. You’ve been so kind to me.”
This small comment made Stephanie’s day, “I’ll miss having a patient like you.” Then she left.
