A Foot from Each Other
I stir a thick drink that is as red as the dress I bought just nearly twenty minutes ago. Travis meets my nervous glance and gives a small grin. I force a smile back and take a sip.
“Are you okay Chels? Did I show up at the wrong time?” He suddenly blurts out the questions, my heart goes to over drive.
“I. . .I’m fine. I’ve been having trouble with a few things but,” I fold my arms over my stomach and lean over the table. He does ther same till our heads are nearly a foot from eachother.
“I mean, do you have a boyfriend. ‘Cause your definitely not married,” He laughs softly and glances at my ringless finger. I smile a weak smile back and shake my head.
“No Travis, but I don’t think I can-” I glance away. He nods, understanding a bit of what I mean.
“I just wondered, I mean you bolted away from me last night like wolves were chasing after you,” He tilts his head and captured my gaze with his dark eyes. I shake my head and take another nervous sip.
“I just was, overwhelmed at the moment, sorry”
