Residing Dreams (Chapter 72)
I was surprised at the length of the article in the newspaper. I was expecting a few sentences about how I won the contest, but instead, they practically wrote a biography about my life! It went something like this: “Essie Miracle, grade 6, age 11 of Pleasantville, IN won the Christian Values and Devotion Poster Contest which was open to all private and/or religious schools throughout Pleasantville, as well as religious individuals in grades 4 through 12 who belonged to any parish in the town. Essie attends Pleasantville Private school and just loves it. She is a top student with many friends, and all of her teachers love her. She has a very close relationship with her father, Mr. Scott Miracle. However, she is not his biological daughter. Essie was reportadly found alone in a room at Pleasantville Nurturing Hospital. This was on June 5, 1977. When one of the nurses found her, she was placed in the ICU . Essie Miracle set the record for the tiniest baby ever born in Pleasantville—she was 3 lb. 12 oz.”
