Despite the fact that she was very tiny and fragile and had a mild kidney disease, this promising preemie was destined to live. And that is just what she had done—she grew slowly yet steadily, and she was a beautiful baby. There were many people who came to see this wonderful little girl, and news of her mysterious appearance had spread throughout the hospital. One of the people who heard about her was Scott Miracle, who later would become her adoptive father. The minute he set his eyes on her, it was clear that he was meant to be her father. So when Essie was finally put up for adoption, Mr. Miracle did everything he could and waited patiently to find out whether or not he would become a parent.
