Ficlets

Wreckless (Sentence Challange!)

It was 8.30am as I gunned my silver convertible up the on ramp of the freeway, I wasn’t late, I just loved the noise it made as the revs peaked.

I hugged the fast lane like it was the only one available to me, I passed car after car wanting to merge to avoid the slow traffic, I paid them no attention.

I was 100 yards from the overpass when a truck in the slow lane came to a complete stop, the car behind it driven by a guy on a cellphone swerved to avoid it. I hit the brakes, I had nowhere to go.

My car was my pride an joy, I knew it would stop, the brakes had just been done and I knew I’d hit the pedal in plenty of time. I cursed at the other driver, he was careless and he’d forced me to compensate for him.

I checked my mirror and then she hit me, the stupid bitch wasn’t paying attention, she hadn’t left enough room between me and her, she had no chance. In the split second it took me to check my mirror, I’d seen her hit the brakes, then hit me.

I sat there as a single, angry tear burned down my cheek.
