Residing Dreams (Chapter 87)

“Oh! I almost forgot. I have something for you,” January said, digging into her deep red satchel. “I thought I’d get you a little going away present.” She held out a neatly wrapped square box with flowerly wrapping paper. “Aw, Jan. Thank you so much. You didn’t have to do this,” I said, with a smile. “When I saw it, I thought of you,” she replied simply. As I opened the box, I saw something glittering. When I held it out in front of me, I was taken aback by how beautiful the gift was. It was an ornament that I could hang on the wall, yet it could also stand up by itself. Inside of the clear ornament was a castle, sparkling in the sky. Alongside it was a rainbow; it’s colors ever present. The clouds were puffy and white, the sky a perfect blue. The scene looked like something from an animated fairy tale, yet it was realistic and lifelike at the same time. I couldn’t explain how. “Wow,” I whispered, breathless. “I don’t know what to say. Thank you. It’s wonderful. Enchanting. It’s—home,” I breathed.
