Midnight Diamond
The clock in the grand dining room like my heart tick tocked away. I sprawled out my lace fan.
I couldn’t believe it all. My world was caving in around me, it suffacated me like a corset tied much too tight. My father, god my father; the hatred and sorrow burned in my stomach. I glanced at the clock.
11:59pm.
I stood from my seat and tucked the fan into my pocket. I raced down the carpeted stairs, trying my best to be silent.
Ding Dong
The great clock in the parlor chimed midnight. I tiptoed to the front door and pulled the latch open. Outside raindrops fell. I searched the street. Then I saw him. My heart quickened and I raced to him, my heart opening up like butterfly wings.
“You came!” I sighed as he embraced my trembling form.
“Of course,” He kissed me tenderly. “I wanted to bring you this,” He dropped a glimmering diamond ring into my hand. The sight of it brought tears to my eyes.
“But? My father-,”
“I know,” He whispered.”Just take it though, for I’ll always love you,”
