An Unwanted Surprise
I slowly inched towards the study, the bottoms of my skirts damp from running in the grass, “He…hello father.” I said quietly.
He looked up from his work, “Ah, Evelyn darling. Where have you been going late in the night? It’s quite unwomanly-”
“I know father.” I interrupted him, being sick of his unfeminist talks. He removed his glasses from his face and continued, “I’ve called you up here for another reason anyway. As you can see you are in need of a husband now aren’t you?”
“Nonsense,” I quickly stated, feeling the ring being imprinted into my hand, “I’m perfectly capable without.”
“No. And we have a surprise someone who has gladly accepted the roll. Redley, come on in here.” A figure came out of the shadows of the study. I couldn’t get past his mischievous grin upon his face as he bowed towards me, never taking his eyes off me. “So my dear, I believe you guys should be married on the 18th of May…” I turned my face away in distaste, only staying on my feet with the help of the wall beside me.
