A disquieting silence swept over the crew as they took up positions where the other two sea serpents had vanished. They skimmed the foaming waters in each direction – rifles, pistols, and crossbows waving above the surface. Bloody Jenny left the whaling harpoon and readied a powder keg depth charge. With the Captain lost at sea, the Quartermaster was responsible for the frigate and her crew. He ordered the Gunner and half of the crew to take up positions near the front of the ship. He hummed a line from the song A Far Off Land as he thought about Thomas and the lost Captain. Sensing the tension among the crew, the bagpiper picked up the tune and began to play the haunting melody that united them around a common purpose – kill or be killed.

After some time had gone by, two more giant floats rose just to the rear of the mighty frigate. The bagpiper continued to play as the devilish duo of harpooned sea serpents began to rise.
