Going Home
Tom sighed. “I thought we already went through this. When I’m on Earth, I’m just another human being. If I happen to die while I am on Earth, I have two choices after I die: I could either go back up to heaven, or I could be immediately and randomly reincarnated as a newborn child.”
“Sweet!” I said. “That must be so cool!”
“I know, right?” Tom said, grinning while his lit cigarette hung from the corner of his mouth. “I got reincarnated as Mickey Rooney once, but I decided to reincarnate myself as who I am now once I got bored with acting an earning Oscars.”
“Nice,” I said, grinning “He was funny.”
“Keyword was,” Tom slyly responded. “Until he wasn’t me anymore.”
We both laughed, and I sighed.
“What’s up?” Tom asked.
“I have to go home.” I said.
