==not right==
I heard voices ahead of us.
Listening intently, I slowed down, putting out my arm to make the woman to do the same.
Audrey was there, tied up to a tree. She didn’t see me yet, which was good; if she made any glance, it would give me away immediately. A man, wearing some sort of uniform, was talking to her.
A small camp was set up in the clearing in front of me. Three canvas tents were in a triangle, and the remains of a fire were in the middle, between them.
I slowly walked around the circumfrence of the clearing, staying about fifteen feet away from the camp wherever I was. The woman stayed behind, watching. I had the knife.. I could use it if I needed to.
The man asking her something. “What are their names?”
“I don’t know.”
“Don’t lie to me. What are their names?” he repeated.
I realized something. His voice.. it was the same as the one in my thoughts.
No, it wasn’t possible. It just couldn’t be. I’d killed him.. I’d gotten rid of him.. Just like I was told to do.
This was not right.
