“Hazel?â€? A voice came from the other side of my door, followed by a knock.

“Yeah?â€? I call out. “Come in.â€?

The door opens and Edwin is standing in my doorway. He takes one look at me and immediately looks away, a blush creeping up his neck.

“It’s okay for you to look at me…â€? I say slowly. Cautiously he returns his eyes to mine, locking them there and never faltering from them. “You can sitâ€?

He sits gingerly on the edge of my bed, looking totally uncomfortable.

“Hazel, I just came in to say goodnight…â€? He says, looking in my eyes again.

“Oh…â€? I say, disappointed. “Okay.â€?

Edwin stands and comes over to me. He leans over me and kisses me on my forehead. “I’ll see you in the morning.â€?
I sit there, shocked. What was I? A child?! I watch as Edwin leaves, closing the door behind him. Not a minute later, the door reopens and Amber walks in with a smug look on her face.
