Great job. I can almost imagine this as a progression to John’s “Dear God” when read in sequence. Interesting. (And that seems to be an overused word. But still…)
Very cool. This is a very thoughtful and apt response. Well done, as always. Thank you for taking the time to craft a prequel. I have no doubt that you are among the majority in your opinion, which is why I’m extremely happy to have been able to share mine. I hope that others feel comfortable in sharing their own sequels and prequels, and look forward to reading those as well.
I love how nonchalant this letter sounds, like you’re confiding in a close friend. Excellent voice, and though you tackled serious issues I couldn’t help but read this as a comedy waiting to happen.
I wouldn’t say that’s a stupid thought John, however I’m unsure of what you mean by reflected. When I write comments that I judge inadequate I very dishonestly delete them. Kudos for putting the real JP out there, not many would : )
@Tad, Well, basically I meant that comedy springs from tragedy when reflected upon. A date gone horribly wrong is fodder for your friends to make fun of you the next day.
When you look at many “jokes,” they can be looked at as tragic events that happened, but with the passing of time can now be looked back on as being humorous. Therefore, comedy is just reflected tragedy, i.e. tragedy + time = funny.
