Stop the Car
Everything is dark. The trees bend inward toward the road, creating a tunnel which almost completely blocks out the light from the full moon. The road is only wide enough for one car, creating a slightly claustrophobic atmosphere.
I can hear my pulse pounding in my ears, and, for some reason, I find myself locking the car doors despite the fact that I’m so far from a main road that the only thing I am likely to encounter at this time of night is a deer or raccoon.
The radio is broken. Even on the A.M. stations, all it’s picking up is static. Then again, the steady mechanical sound of static flowing out of the speakers is slightly comforting.
“ HEY !” someone screams, and I jump. I relax a little when I realize that it’s coming from the radio.
But the voice continues.
“ STOP YOUR CAR !” It chirps.
I look around wildly.
“ YES , YOU!” it continues. “ GREEN STATION WAGON -“
I have a green station wagon…
“-OH MY GOD STOP YOUR CAR STOP FOR THE LOVE OF GOD , STOP THE CAR !!!“
