An Apartment Between Them 5

“It doesn’t match the rest of the furniture,â€? Kate’s exasperation made her whine.

Fight, Joe cheered her, even if you’re willing to put up with him for the rest of your life, you shouldn’t have to put up with that couch.

“You mean it doesn’t match your furniture,â€? Adam argued.

“There is so much space in here you could fit plenty of furniture!â€? Joe tried for enthusiasm. Maybe if he kept his realtor’s voice, Adam wouldn’t see that he was spoke to defend Kate.

“Shut up!â€? Adam snarled without looking at Joe.

“Don’t talk like that to him,â€? Kate spoke softly. “He’s been nothing but kind to us, and it’s me you’re mad at.â€?

“I’m upset you don’t want to keep my stuff.â€?

“My stuff looks nicer than yours,â€? Kate defended her point. There was significant evidence to substantiate this claim; Adam’s wavy brown hair was, as usual, a bit unbrushed. His t-shirt had coffee stains and his jeans were torn and stained (not in the cool way). Kate was always clean, unwrinkled, and often smelled of flowers.
