Said the Poet, to Herself (a poem)
Reach out and above; go
beyond and deep
inside; stretch and reflect.
Expand and expound. Write
to old friends, lest they feel
forgotten. Meet new
people. Fight the encroaching
agoraphobia before
it becomes a threatening, all-
powerful force
never to be released.
Dig deep into your
emotional well-
being, satisfied with even
a weak poem. Write it
anyway, to name names
and feel feelings. Give voice
to whatever lies
buried, lingering inside,
lest it become forgotten.
Battle the intruding numbness
before it wraps around
permanently paralyzing
what remains
of your heart.
