Day the Second on the Zambezi River

The boat rocked back and forth on the lazy Zambezi River. Fat mosquitoes hovered just above the water’s surface, breaking up when the dinghy disturbed the placid surface.

June the 22nd, 1905, wrote an explorer on deck, Day the Second of searching after this mysterious group of people. I have gathered reports leading to their whereabouts, and so far, I have reason to believe that they reside somewhere along the Zambezi River. Rawlings says that he heard from a reliable source that these people worship some sort of farm animal. Unfortunately, most of Rawlings’s ‘correspondents’ can be found in the basement of any sleazy pub. But, I digress. I fear, as many explorers do, that I may not return. But if these people really do worship a farm animal- (the explorer chuckled while writing this) -then I should think I have nothing to fear. Dear Cecilia, I hope to return to you soon. End of Day the Second.

The small boat lumbered ever closer to its destination.
