Pebbles

She stared at the pebbles by the waters edge. Kiera felt much like the pebbles at the moment. Perched precariously above a cold abyss. Every tiny ripple in the water was a wave to them, attemping to pull them in. The little pebbles fought to stay on land, but some of them simply had to fall. These pebbles wouldn’t come back from the water easily. Neither would Keira. This wasn’t something she could shake off.

She picked up the biggest rock she could find around her feet, and threw it as far as she could into the lake. She let out a yell of exasperation, and walked away. She was coming back. And no one was going to pull her back in. Because the waves were really only ripples, when you considered the whole lake.
