C U L8R: Tina talks to Paige
I needed to talk to the alter-ego. I walked over to my mirror. He looked back and kind of waved.
“What’s your plan? What do I do?”
“Talking to yourself?” A voice behind me asked, slightly amused.
When I saw her, I felt relief wash through me like a wave. “Paige. What’s up?”
“I was gonna ask you,” she said softly. “You weren’t in school. What’s up?”
“It’s that guy, on the IM.”
“You met a guy?” She looked happy. “What’s he like?”
“He’s a creep. I told you Saturday night.”
“Tina, I haven’t been IMed since Friday. Remember? With Ashton at the -.”
“We talked Saturday and Sunday -.”
“T, I’ve been at my dad’s. He doesn’t have Internet. You think I’d lie about that?”
“No,” I said softly, because I did believe her.
She’s my best friend; I know when she’s lying.
And my stomach was tightening as the skin on my back tingled.
And my reflection told me she was being truthful.
“I think someone tapped into your IM account,” I said, my voice hollow.
