All Hallow's Eve, Part I: The Ghost of Sister Anastasia (Genre Ficlet)

It was a tradition at St. Bartholomew’s High that the captain of the football team and the captain of the cheer-leading team had to spend the night of All Hallow’s Eve in the parish rectory. Together. (Cue the raised eyebrows and muffled giggles.) But here was the twist: they had to do it behind Mother Superior’s back and they had to sleep in the room at the end of the hall.

This room was currently unoccupied, and it had been that way since 1966, when Sister Anastasia had taken her life by hanging herself from the bedposts. Her lifeless body had swung from the bedposts for almost three days before anyone found out what had happened. Everyone had thought she had closeted herself in to fast and pray, which she apparently did often.

They say that after three days, the smell was terrible, her bulging, sightless eyes terrifying.

To this day, her ghost was said to haunt that room and there were numerous sightings of a shadowy figure walking the lawns in front of the rectory.

To be continued…
