Derek sends me on a mission
“What do you mean I need to talk to your mom? What are you talking about?”
“Abby, look, you’re not going to believe me. Please just go talk to my mom. She’s at work. You need to listen to her. It’s really important.”
The urgency in Derek’s voice told me to trust him and talk to Jaylene right away. I had no clue what this had to with my dad but I guess the sooner I went to the diner the sooner I’d find out. “Ok,” I said, “I’ll go over now. I’ll catch you later.”
“Good. I’ll be waiting.” He was acting so weird.
I slowly pulled out of the park. Making a left on Elm, I could see the old fashion neon sign pointing down to the diner entrance.
Jaylene greeted me from behind the counter. “I just got off the phone with Derek. Grab a seat at a booth. I’ll be over in a minute.”
She brought over a pot of coffee and poured us each a cup. Then she smoothed out her uniform and sat in the bench across from me.
“So Derek sent you, huh?”
“Yeah, I’m not really sure why. He just said it had to do with my dad.”
