Glad to See You
She took his hand-cold, as usual, and led him to her room.
“What are you doing here?”
“My, my, look who’s being cold,” Aysen said.
“I thought your…kind couldn’t come out in the daylight,” she whispered.
“Nah, it’s just more dramatic when we eat at night,” Aysen chuckled, smirking.
“Oh,” Sora said, feeling stupid.
“Who’s this?” Aysen stroked Sugar. Sugar hissed and tried to claw his pale hand.
“Ah, her?” Sora held up her cat. “This is Sugar, the Egyptian Mau cat.”
“Cute cat,” Aysen said, not really meaning it.
“It’s O.K. if you don’t like her,” Sora said, smiling. She set the moody old cat down. “She’s really old, so she’s grumpy around everyone but me. We have other cats, though.”
“Whatcha reading?” Aysen said, picking up her book.
“Ah, right now I’m reading a mystery,” Sora said, fondly taking the book Aysen was holding.
“What kind of writing is this?” Aysen said, puzzled.
“This? This is Braille. It’s for blind people. We read with our hands,” Sora smiled.
She clasped Aysen’s hand in hers.
