Isaac heard her soft footfalls as she pretended to creep toward the kitchen. He closed his eyes, dropped his head and shook it sadly. He knew that she knew his resounding tub kick had given his secret away. They had known each other since kindergarten, were closer than siblings and sometimes her “sisterly love” threatened to smother him.
Eve picked up the file folder, her glass, both cell phones, Isaac’s precious pack and returned to the floor. Pulling her legs into lotus position, she lay the items in an arc beside her.
She picked up the folder. “Still can’t believe you lied to me,” she said flatly. “Didn’t lie,” came the reply, “Just didn’t go into an in depth explanation. Knew what your reaction would be. I know you have them. Slide them under,” pause, “Please?”
She scoffed, “No. You knew I would be arrested the second I got off a plane there. So you lied.” He was about to reply when three hard knocks interrupted. “Not Maggie,” muttered Isaac. “Nope,” Eve said moving to a crouch, “Cover me.”
