Trying to sneak it in [Challenge by Numbers]
Alan was thirsty and he didn’t know why. 18 empty bottles of water sat on the road in front of him. He leaned back on the curb and pondered walking back into the ‘7 11’ convenience store to buy some more. A quick pocket check showed his eyes that he only had 81 cents left.
“Most unfortunate,” he muttered to himself as he stood up and stepped away from the road. A transport truck suddenly whipped by, the 9 wheels on the side closest to the curb smashed chaotically through the arranged plastic water bottles, sending them all skittering along the street.
A quick 180 turn and Alan was walking away from the road and off toward his home. The apartment buildings, 1.8 kilometers away, could be seen just past some tree’s. Bringing the cracked face of his watch up, Alan scoffed at the time. It was 6:00pm, on the dot.
“That certainly explains nothing,” he said, loudly enough so that the attractive girl roller blading past would think he was crazy. Alan whistled and walked, 5/4 time, a bar of sixteenths and triplets.
