If That's the Way It's Gonna Be: Part 9

It was April first. Exactly one week before my ex-best friend’s birthday. Maria’s birthday, to tell the truth. Everyone was invited. Everyone except me. And the new kid, Eric. No one liked him. Not even me. He was weird and he had a twin. Maria moved from her old locker into one next to Jake’s. Now, I’m stuck with Eric. And his tuba.
I was putting my things away one day when he came up to me. He was wearing his marching band costume. Gold and Blue were not my favorite colors. Yuck.
“Hi,” he said nervously. He snorted as he said it. Wow.
“Hi,” I said. This was just a little awkward.
“I’m Eric,” he said. He smiled and I noticed he had braces. Gold and Blue. What a surprise!
“I hope you don’t mind but I’m the locker next to yours,” he said.
“I don’t mind. It was getting a little lonely over here,”.
“No need to fear! Eric’s here!” I giggled. Yeah, Eric was weird but he was sort of nice. Maybe we would be friends. He smiled again.
“What’s your name?” he asked.
“I’m Jacqueline,”.
“Cool, I love that name!”
