Confusion
“But that doesn’t mean you have to. I could have gone on alone. It really would have been fine with me,” she said as he closed his eyes against the world again.
“Well…I didn’t want you to have to go on alone,” he replied, grimacing as it reached the top and slowly began to swing back and forth.”I don’t want you to be alone.”
At this, she turned to stare at him again, watching as he leaned back in the seat, then, reaching down, she grabbed his hand and gave it a quick squeeze.
He opened his eyes immediately, but she had already turned away. If he could have seen her face he would have been able to read the confusion written there. In her mind, a battle was happening as she tried to figure out which was stronger-her need to be independent now, when she finally had the opportunity, or her newfound need for Chris.
She was falling for him. And she wasn’t sure if it was too late to turn back now.
