He Said She Said

I didn’t want to say anything at all, but I finally found a way to speak. I opened my mouth and sound came out. Ah, my vocal chords – I forgot about those.
“No!” I exaggerated referring to wanting to talk to Josh, “maybe? Yes.”
Mitch looked a little surprised, “Why?”
“I don’t know,” I lied.
Mitch looked away for a moment and things were kind of awkwardly silent. Then he turned back to me as if he was going to say something he actually wanted to say.
“Yeah, you do,” he said, “just tell me why. You know you can tell me anything.”
Another deep breath, “Well, I just hadn’t seen him in so long and I thought it just would have been nice to just say hello or something.”
“Something as in?” Mitch asked.
I shrugged, “Hang out?”
He kinda freaked after I said that, “What?!”
“But I wouldn’t be able to,” my voice cracked a little, “I mean, after what happened.”
“But still,” he argued, “to even think to hang out with him.”
“So now you’re judging me?” I asked.
This conversation was starting to get interesting…
