Abby and a Donkey

Abby squinted through the darkness to try and see who was speaking. There seemed to be a faint light coming from somewhere, and illuminated somewhat the area she was standing. As her eyes began to adjust to the dimness, she searched what she now realized indeed was a cave, but all that she could see from her standing place was a lone donkey, all saddled up, and harnessed to a large wheel like a ship’s. He stopped to look at her and continued walking counterclockwise, turning the wheel as he went.
Abby looked up to see a tiny pinprick of light which she assumed was the hole she fell from. “I didn’t know it was possible to fall so far” she mused.

“Oh ya fell? Then maybe this here’s a chasm.”
Abby whipped around again, but all she saw was the donkey. Did it talk? “E-excuse me?”
“Or a trench, or ravine, or what-have-you. Don’t matter much to me.”
She stood and stared at the animal, stunned at what she was seeing. “You….you can speak?” she asked incredulously.
”’Course! Ain’t things talk where you come from?”
