A Moment's Hesitation
Their marriage hadn’t been perfect. OK, it had become a disaster! Nancy could not remember the last time she and Jim had done something like this together.
After being fired from his job, Jim had become lazy. Spending afternoons at The Duke’s Pub had become his latest past-time. There were days she thought life would be easier without him bleeding her money from their bank account.
When Jim had suggested a hike in the Miranda Valley, she saw an opportunity. A chance to make things right again.
As she got to the summit of the Fire-Tower, she remembered how they’d met here. In the years of their budding relationship, picnics, here, were frequent. The scenery was breathtaking and romantic.
After lunch, Jim stood by the edge. It was time to make things right. Time for change!
“Isn’t it wonderful, Nance?â? Jim pointed at the tops of the ridge miles away.
“Only because you’re here to see it with me, babe,â? she said hesitating, but, for a second.
As the ground came closer, she wished she’d pushed him first!
