I’m with Mistress. I totally expected the hero to be older, and female. So I think Kira may actually be a younger brother, or even the son of the hero who was with the dragon earlier.
In any case, the descriptions of his play were well done. I could see myself doing this same thing a quarter of a century ago.

I have a tendency to think of characters as the same gender as the author too! But I totally meant for the dragon to be found and hatched by a male. :)

I do that, think of characters as the same gender as the author, so, like John, I picuted Kira as a younger brother or son.
