Eve tried her best to be keep a serious face. Even in her world there were times when things were just coincidence.

She sighed. “Look Josh,” she said.

“No,” he turned abruptly and threw himself on the couch causing Isaac to yank his vulnerable limbs out of the way. “I will not ‘look’ at anything. I have tried to explain this away. You know me. I don’t chase fantasy cats.”

Eve ground her teeth. She heard her jaw pop, probably not a good sign.

Isaac got up and rubbed his hands briskly together, “Okay, just to break all this tension,” he smiled, “How about looking at what I brought.”

Eve and Josh frowned at him. Then chose to ignore him. Eve sat beside Josh, “Josh I know you. And I know that you are really freaked out right now, hell, I would be too.”

Josh interrupted her, “Then listen to me. Stop. Playing. The. Game.”

Eve’s phone knew the perfect moments to break in.

“Hey Maggie.” Pause. “Oh. My. God.” Click.

Josh and Isaac looked at her expectantly.

“Josh, your apartment is burning.”
