Second on the fourth

Though I was a bit cumbersome with my cast, I managed to walk at a steady pace while holding Rose’s hand. There were more people than I expected to see at this hour in central park, most of them couples. I gave Rose a crooked smile, and tighted my hold on her hand.

We eventually arrived at the center, which was surprisingly filled with people. Then I remembered something.

“Hey, today’s the fourth of July! I bet they’re getting ready for a fireworks show.”
I smiled at the word fireworks, already having felt enough in my chest for the past several hours.
Rose came closer to me, putting her arms around me.
“We should stay and watch then, shouldn’t we?”
I sighed to calm the butterflies inside, and returned her hug.
“I’d like that.”
She smiled up at me, and kissed my nose. I then noticed her beautiful aqua blue eyes, so full of content, sinking into mine. I was so intoxicated by this trance, that I hadn’t noticed how close our faces were.
As the first firework exploded, we shared our second kiss.
