A Deadly Conversation
A man walked out of the darkness to join the man the detective had been chasing. The detective hid in the shadow cast by the sewer walls, and listened to what the two others in the intersection were saying.
“You failed, Jim,” one said.
“Well, technically, I didn’t fail. The guy I hired failed, so it’s not really my fault.”
“Normally, I wouldn’t accept that answer, but right now, I will. You’re lucky. I don’t have to pay you, but I guess I’ll give you a second chance. Next time, though, I want him dead.”
“Okay, okay, pal! Calm down. I know exactly who to ask. The only problem is they’re gonna have better security on the rest of the tour so it’s going to be much more difficult to sneak in…”
“Hey, that’s your problem, not mine.”
“Yes, yes it is. Well, you know the way out.” The two exited out of the sewer, and the detective stepped out of the darkness. It was the first chance he’d gotten to inspect his surroundings, and he was surprised with what he saw. This place had been converted into an office!
