Hadron's Rabbit Hole.
Reyes tumbled into blackness. Particles of cosmic radiation fell over him like an army of crawling fire-ants tip-toeing over his flesh. His screams were silent; no sound existed here. Only darkness & nothingness. And the strange scent of honey.
Then he felt cold. The ground below him was dirty, gritty and wet. He lay face down in mud with wind blowing about him.
“Bill?” His voice croaked, as he peered up at a grey-indigo sky. The clouds overhead seemed to radiate a dull red-glow, the rain gave the air an odd blue hue.
“I’m here.” the exec rolled on to his side and looked about, “Where the hell are we? What happened?”
Conrad’s body ached, “I don’t know. I cannot even phathom what could have happened. But we’re not in Geneva anymore!”
Bill stood and helped the scientist to his feet. “Jesus, Conrad, look,” Bill pointed to the landscape.
Strewn over miles of flatland lay bodies, stiring among the puddles.
“What have I done?” Reyes asked.
“What indeed,” Came a stranger’s voice; and the two men spun in shock.
