“What are you thinking?” I yelled at her as she sat on the ground, sobbing.
“I… I had to-”
“He’s not dead, don’t worry. We need to get out of here!“
I grabbed her arm, running back in the opposite direction. The woman was on the way, beating down one of the guards.
“Come on!” I yelled at her, and she abandoned him where he was on the ground, coughing.
We all ran back out to edge of the road, still hidden in the forest. He was there, standing in the road, examining the wreckage of the bus.
It took all the will I had not to kill him right there and then.
“Come on, this way,” I said, walking parallel to the road.
I didn’t know where we were going, and I didn’t care. It was away from here, and away from most of the danger we would have to face.
They would catch up, though, and there was nothing we could do about it. The only thing we had to do was be prepared, and hope for the best.
Maybe get some other people on our side, too.
