Thank you! For those of you who’ve been following my ficlets, you know that I don’t frequently curse-and even then, only minor ones that can be found in the Bible-but when I saw this, I promptly let out a rather loud “What the f*!” Yeah, I know…But this is really too much! This isn’t right. AOL is constantly getting rid of it’s writing sites! _Gotverdammt! _ (ask SaintChuck to translate that for you).

It would be absolutely great if we could merge it with another site or buy out the domain name from AOL … I, for one, know that I would probably pay a small fee to keep it up. (follows blusparrow’s lead and picks up dull pitchfork)

However, I’ve always depended upon the capitalism of others. Whether there are ads on a free site or a small membership fee, there has got to be a way to make money off of a site that has such a radical fan base.

I’d be happy to lend some $$$ and even my time to such an organization .. whether it be to help run/moderate the site, help with some remote administration (if needed) .. but something this good, should not go away!

Huh. It hadn’t occurred to me until now how much the League of Awesomeness (LoA) is the opposite of America Online (AOL). I suggest we keep everyone apprised of updates with the shutdown and/or transfer of Ficlets on the “I Write Ficlets” group on Facebook…

Like the pogo games that were free, they put all the good games on Club Pogo and kept upping the price each year.
But I would pay for Ficlets site in a yearly check for say under 20.00 It would be worth it, sometimes it’s the only site I use. Well IMDB and porn. JK about the porn.

I wish that there was something we could do to save the site. And a way for this to happen seamlessly, but the reality is, it’s probably not going to happen. Piaget said that sometimes cognitive disequilibrium is necessary and as much as I hate to say it, I think this is goodbye.

FWIW , Kevin said in the “I Write Ficlets” group on Facebook that he and some friends are working on a successor to Ficlets.com. He’s hoping to have it up and running for 01/15. So there’s an extra option.

That said, I, too, would be willing to put out money for an annual membership to Ficlets to keep it alive.

my notes are like stories, too. i kept the ones that meant something to me.. even though that probably sounds lame, but really, I did, and it would take me hours to copy it all down!

I am all for anything that saves Ficlets. Please inform us of any updates, and I will definitely be getting in touch with the Powers-That-Be to put in my two cents, for what it’s worth. I’ve put too much of myself into this site for it just to disappear in a month.

This is the saddest news I’ve recieved in a great many months. I’m going to start crying any minute now. Ficlets is one of the few truly wonderful things in my life. Not only is it my escape, where I go to release those pent up ideas and explore emotions I’m too scared about, but its also where I’ve met some really awesome people. People that I share so much in common with but would have never met if it hadn’t have been for this wonderful site.

I really hope we find a way to keep it alive (I’ll do ANYTHING I can to save Ficlets) because I don’t know what I would do with myself if I couldn’t sit in front of my computer for several hours reading what this awesome group of people have come up with. And if anyone wants, I just happen to have a bunch of pointy pitchforks.

I don’t have a pitchfork… maybe blu, penguincaptain, or Orange have one they could lend me.
Hay aside, I think I would try to save this sinking ship with what little gum I have to patch whatever hole there is.

It will be quite sorrowful when ficlets is sent to the grave… There is an online petition that pretty much everyone has signed. having over 1000 different poems and stories in my books (only about 4 posted)that are either just started or completed ficlets is a great place to share some of the ones ive been working on it will be missed.

I’m feel that doom is imminent… but you know, I think that a new Ficlets site could maybe be just as good as the old one, or even better. Think of all the possibilities if Kevin is really able to get a new site up… I just don’t want to think that I could lose all the support and constructive critism of the brilliant Ficleteers that are a part of this site. I can’t imagine not being able to read these amazing stories that make me gasp and laugh and even, cry.

Okay, I think I found a way to save a backup of the site. Only problem is, it requires you to know the host address, as well as a username and password. Also, I’m guessing it is a admin username/password, so I can’t figure it out. Maybe Kevin Lawyer could figure out how to run it? It’s called handy backup software. I will keep looking for other ways to backup.

I set up a page at Protaganize, but I don’t like it as much as I liked Ficlets in its prime.

I’m still very sad about Ficlets, and would totally jump ship if it were to come back.

Latest update is that Kevin Lawver is working on the sequel to ficlets, with hopes of launching by the time ficlets is pulled. There will definitely be lots of announcing and such when the time is near.

I am willing to do whatever it takes in my lonely little city and I know people would help. nudges OrangeOreos I’d even be willing to pay for Ficlets to stay and that’s saying something coming from me. (I have no money) We can’t just give up! Does anyone know the email address of someone I can contact? Send me a note if you do.
