The Wild Winds of Fortune
Nestled amongst the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, there lay a small cabin where a retired literature professor lived with his loving wife Rose. Sam Higgins had spent his entire life chasing an ephemeral world of impossible dreams and fairy tales; a world where good and virtue triumph over evil, where the path of right is as clear as the setting sun.
While he had been content with the life he led, he was no longer a young man able to challenge the world. If only there was something he could do!
Then one night while dozing off in his armchair, it came to him. Like Alonso Quijana before him, he would become a knight errant! He stood up quickly, the fire of glory burning in him now. Startled, Rose looked up at him, unsure of when she last saw Sam move so fast.
“I shall impersonate a knight!â? he cried, quickly explaining his plan to her.
She listened carefully, a smile spreading across her face. “Then I suppose you’re going to need a squire?â?
He smiled back at his love. “And perhaps new names…”
