A Sorry Look In His Eyes

Lance kept on laughing with his friends until I looked up at him with tears in my eyes. His smile faded into a frown and he got up from his seat.
“Oh god, are you okay?” he asked, sticking out his hand. I shook my head no, but still grabbed his hand. All of the other eighth graders started to laugh and he immediately let go of my hand.
“Why would you care?” I asked. Lance looked at everyone around him and gave me a sorry look.
“I don’t,” he said quietly.
“What?” I asked, shocked.
“I don’t care,” he said louder. “Now get out of here Blondie!” I grabbed all of my books and headed on my way. Lance laughed proudly in the distance. I sat down in the back of the bus and slammed all my books on the ground.
“Yeah, that’s where you belong,” everyone called after me. I looked up and saw Lance who was frowning. He mouthed a sorry and sunk down in his seat. Was he really mean, or was he trying to show off to his friends?
